Flavour profile
It provides a balanced flavour profile:
• Earthy/bitter - Dandelion
• Floral - Elderflower
• Citrusy - Lemon balm
• Herbaceous/tingling - Echinacea
• Tart/fruity - Hibiscus
The Hibiscus and Lemon balm help keep the blend vibrant and drinkable, while the Elderflower softens the sharper edges.
A bit about each of the beautiful herbs used in this healing tisane:
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
Dandelion is a bitter herb that helps to support both liver and gallbladder function. It provides gentle digestive stimulation, helping stimulate digestive secretions, which can improve overall assimilation and energy. and it has a mild diuretic action (“water balance” support). Furthermore, it provides mineral nourishment, especially potassium and trace minerals.
Energetically: Dandelion often feels grounding and clearing. In tea blends it can add an earthy depth while helping the body move energy stagnation, especially after stress, rich foods, sluggish digestion, or seasonal heaviness.
Elderflower (Sambucus nigra)
Elderflower is delicate, floral, and traditionally associated with the respiratory and immune systems. It provides support during colds and flus, encourages perspiration during feverish illness, eases sinus congestion, and helps calm irritated upper respiratory tissues.
Energetically: Elderflower has a light, opening quality, encouraging circulation to the skin and helping the body process seasonal illness more smoothly. When used as a tisane it contributes a soft floral sweetness and a sense of uplift.
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
Lemon balm is a cherished calming nervine herb that helps to reduce stress and provide support to the nervous system lifting your overall mood. It also provides digestive relaxation (especially stress-related tension) and supports restful sleep without sedation. Modern research also suggests it may support cognitive calm and gentle mood balance.
Energetically: It is bright, lemony, and soothing, calming without dulling. Historically, lemon balm has also been associated with “gladdening the heart”.
Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurpea)
Echinacea is one of the best-known North American immune-support herbs. Helping to provide immune activation and responsiveness, while supporting the body during acute infections, soothing inflamed tissues, and supporting the lymphatic system.
Energetically: Echinacea has a distinctive tingling sensation on the tongue, which reflects some of its active compounds. Because of this it is used as a mobilising herb, encouraging the body to respond actively rather than passively. In a tisane blend it helps to promote resilience, recovery, and seasonal defense.
Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa)
Hibiscus is a strong antioxidant that brings a vivid ruby colour, tartness, and cooling energy to any tisane blend. It supports hydration and cooling, the cardiovascular and circulatory systems.
Energetically: Hibiscus feels refreshing and enlivening. It brightens heavier herbs both in flavour and mood. Rich in polyphenols and vitamin C–associated compounds, it often gives blends a revitalising quality.
